It applies to our current and former Customers who live in Australia and replaces earlier versions that we may have given to you.

 

By purchasing a policy from us, you consent to the collection, use, disclosure, storage, and processing of your personal information as described in this Privacy Policy. In addition to you, this Privacy Policy applies to covered drivers about whom you give us personal information, other persons who have cover under this policy, and persons who claim against an insured with cover under this policy. We may collect, use, disclose, store, and process the personal information of those persons like we do your personal information.

 

By providing personal information to us about covered drivers, you are representing that you are authorised by them to do so. You also represent that you have informed the covered parties, and any other person whom you authorise to use your insured item, of the terms of our Privacy Policy and they have consented to them.

 

Information Collection

 

We collect personal information about you and other drivers for the purposes of underwriting, quoting, managing and servicing your needs on any of our any of our insurance products, including but not limited to our pet, car, general liability or professional indemnity policies. This may include an insurance product that you may not have specifically enquired about but is part of our offerings.

 

This information may include your name, street and email addresses, phone number, date of birth, gender, marital status, education level, residential status, licence status and history, driving history, employment history, tax file number, details about the risk you want to insure, information about other parties, credit details and prior insurance details.

 

We may also obtain from third party service providers information concerning any past bankruptcies, law enforcement history, driving history, claim information and information related to your residence. We may also collect information about prior claims is obtained from Insurance Reference Services.

 

We may also obtain information about you and other parties.  Information we collect includes identifying and contact information, residency and household information, prior insurance details, and driving, claims, law enforcement and bankruptcy histories.

 

If you have an event that may be covered by your insurance policy, we will obtain additional information about you and the accident in order to investigate and settle your insurance claim. We will obtain this information from you, police reports, and third parties, such as witnesses and people involved in the accident.

 

Our website will also obtain information that is unique to Internet transactions. It includes the website that linked you to ours, your computer operating system, and the pages you viewed on our site. Our website will also store “cookies” on your computer. Cookies collect technical data, like your Internet protocol (IP) address, operating system, and session ID. They can also save certain information entered by you.

 

All the information we collect is securely stored on our systems.

  • claims handlers, assessors, claims investigators, subject matter experts;
  • information technology providers, such as hardware/software vendors and programmers;
  • customer or market research and/or analytical and/or business/marketing strategy service providers;
  • underwriters, reinsurers, insurance intermediaries, financial institutions, credit agencies, insurance registers (such as the Insurance Claims Register) and other Insurers;
  • government, law enforcement or statutory bodies;
  • policy holders, where you are an insured person, but not the policy holder;
  • external dispute resolution schemes; and
  • any other parties that we consider necessary to administer the insurance or process your claim, or anyone as otherwise communicated to you or required by law.

 

We will take reasonable steps to ensure that all Personal Information we use or disclose is accurate, up to date, complete, relevant, and not misleading so far as practicable. If you become aware that any information, we have collected from you is no longer up to date or accurate, please correct this as soon as practicable. If disclosure is required outside of our organisation for any of the aforementioned purposes, we will do everything reasonably  within our power to prevent its unauthorised use or disclosure.

We restrict access to your personal information to our employees and others who we feel must use it to provide our products and services which may include countries outside of Australia where our employees operate. This may include New Zealand, South Africa, Philippines, Fiji , United States and United Kingdom. To review information we have about you, get in touch with our Customer Service Team.  You must describe the kind of information you want to review and state that your request is in response to this Privacy Policy. Include your full name, mailing address, and policy number (if applicable). Within 10 business days, we will describe what is available and how you may request corrections.

 

You may receive a copy of the information for a fee to cover our costs. We may not provide access to certain information, such as privileged information about insurance claims or lawsuits, but we will provide a reason for denying any such access.

 

To correct information about you, send a written request as described above, explaining your desired correction. Within 10 business days, we will either make the requested correction or tell you why we will not.

 

If we make your requested correction, we will notify you in writing. If we do not make the requested correction, you may file with us a concise written statement about why you object, including the information you think is correct. Your statement will then become part of your file.

 

Complaint About your Privacy or Personal Information

 

You may appeal if you are refused access to a document, or we have refused to amend information on your personal records, or believe you have a general privacy matter to resolve.
