Is your dog getting the right amount of exercise?

Dogs are active by nature. For thousands of years they’ve worked with us humans, and each type of breed has their particular role, like looking after livestock, hunting or for protection purposes such as in police forces. But sad to say, these days some dogs are Couch Potatoes! Food is conveniently provided for them, and they do not need to look or hunt for it. They are adjusting to our sedentary lifestyle which often results in a lack of exercise.

There are so many benefits of playtime and exercise:

• Reduce behaviour problems like digging, biting, hyperactivity and chewing
• Maintain good general health, agility and flexibility
• Keeps the dog within their healthy weight range
• Fearful dogs will learn self-confidence and begin to build trust in humans
• No longer restless; they also sleep better
• Greatly improves digestion and prevents constipation

Be sure to talk to your vet to know the right amount of exercise your dog should be having. Starting your own exercise program without consultation might stress your dog. Also keep the weather in mind, don’t exercise too much on a hot day as this might cause overheating.
