Hours:
You never know when your mischievous mate will get into trouble, so you will need to find a vet that is open late or has an after hours emergency number you can call in case something serious happens to your dog in the middle of the night.
Australia Veterinary Association accredited:
The AVA is a not for profit organization that represents more than 6000 Australian vets. Although not all excellent vets are part of this organization, such membership does ensure a level of premium medical care for your dog.
Medical equipment and services:
A good vet hospital should have a range of modern medical facilities for your pet. You should ask for a tour of the hospital, and they should be more than willing to show you around. They should have access to X-ray machines, dentistry, in house lab tests, an ultrasound machine and have the ability to send out to specialist labs and refer you to specialists.
Someone you get along with:
You will need to like the person that may potentially save your dogs life one day. You will need to find a personable, open and friendly vet that likes your dog, and who your dog likes. You shouldn’t just settle for the first vet you come across, meet a few and choose the best fit for you and your dog.
