Deciding on a new puppy can bring loads of joy and excitement to the family, but choosing just which breed is the right fit can be tough. Many different factors need to be taken into consideration including:
The size of your Home
Willingness to exercise the dog
Your work schedule
We’ve listed a handful of our favourite breeds and who they suit the most:
Golden Retriever
One of the most popular breeds in Australia, you will need to be willing to exercise this guy at least twice per day for half an hour. Ideal for families with Children, they also need their mind to be occupied as they are prone to boredom. Plenty of games and attention from the kids make this the perfect family pooch
Griffon Bruxellois
Inquisitive and alert these littlies need less excercise but still demand lots of attention so aren’t ideal for this working full-time and would be more suitable for retirees and those whom work from home.
Staffordshire Bull Terrier
Body Builders of the canine world these guys may look strong and tough but usually they’re gentle and loving. Requiring daily walks as a minimum Staffys make a great companion dog and are perfect for a younger owner.
Daschund
The ‘sausage’ dog is is perfect for the older owner requiring less exercise and more companionship. We don’t recommend a Sausage for those with young children as occasionally they can nip and are slightly more difficult to train.
Italian Greyhound
The ‘IG’ as they are affectionately known as, are a very quiet and gentle breed. They are more suited to smaller families with fewer children and tend to bond closely to one human only. Regular moderate exercise is required but remember this breed hates the cold weather and will require a jacket when venturing out during rain showers.
