Dogs love to chew on bones, it’s their favourite treat and they just couldn’t get enough of it! But this habit does not promise healthy results for your dog, and potentially may lead to injury.
*) Mouth injuries – A bit bloody, and may require a trip to your vet.
*) Bone gets stuck on their throat – Your dog may gag, trying to get the stuck bone fragment, and may need the help of a vet.
*) Bone gets stuck in the stomach – You may think your pooch consumed it just fine, little did you know, it may be too big to pass out of the stomach and into the intestines and it may require surgery to remove the bone.
*) Constipation due to bone fragments – When bones are broken down, some fragments are so sharp that it scrapes parts of the intestines down to the rectum, resulting to difficulty in pooping and traces of blood is seen. Worst, Peritonitis may occur where there are holes on your dog’s stomach and intestine, which will develop a severe bacterial infection.
Feeding your pooch some bone may give him benefits but we have to admit that it’s also pretty risky.
We can alternatively give our dog a good chewbone, same benefits and a lot safer and less worrisome.
