We often think “why do dogs go crazy after taking a bath?” and even “there may be something wrong with my pooch” We humans feel relaxed after a soothing, warm bath its not the same with our dog. There is a reason…
We humans feel relaxed after a soothing, warm bath and it is same with dogs. However, there is a scientific explanation as to why they go crazy every time they take a bath. Let’s find out!
Dogs feel an unusual sensation when they smell soap and shampoo with the presence of water on their fur. Many dogs display this kind of behaviour, which we call the “post-bath berserk syndrome”, simply our dogs way of shaking the water off their fur and to dry faster.
Studies show that not all dogs are stressed from baths. Those that love water may get zoomies (meaning that dog display exuberance or full of excitement) after swimming in the pool, jumping in the lake or walking in the rain.
Always remember to tell your pet sitter how your dog handles being bathed especially if you are going away for an extended period and you have booked a wash with your dog sitter.
Noticeably dogs just seem to enjoy running and playing when wet. If two or more dogs are put together, very likely a vigorous after-bath play time will follow. With these, it appears that this a normal behaviour for some dogs when they get wet.
