We all love our dogs and want to show them how much we love them. This may mean we sometimes can do things that irritate and annoy them, just like they can sometimes do things to irritate and annoy us, such as jumping up on strangers or sniffing someone in an embarrassing area. The following 5 behaviours are things we do that can annoy your precious pup.
Many dogs very annoyed at being held tightly, especially from small children or complete strangers. They may not be too concerned about getting the occasional hug from you, their loving owner. However, to show domination a dog puts its paw onto another dog, so having someone hug them can be seen to them as a challenge to their pecking order in the house, so it is better to tell people coming into your house to pat your dog rather than hugging.
- BEING WOKEN UP SUDDENLY
Like us, dogs hate being woken up suddenly from a deep sleep. They were probably dreaming about chasing their ball when suddenly they find someone patting them. Older dogs tend to sleep a lot deeper than younger dogs, so they can get annoyed a lot more or scared by being suddenly woken up by someone. If possible, let your dog wake up naturally without sneaking up on them or touching them, if you do need to wake them, make sure you do it gently and quietly. Children should also be taught not to disturb the dog when they’re sleeping.
- STARING
Have you ever noticed your dog spot another animal in the backyard? Their fixation on this animal doesn’t seem very friendly, and this is because when a dog stares at something, they are getting ready to challenge it. When humans stare at dogs, they see it is a challenge too. When you stare at your dog, they may only see it as playing, however when a stranger stares at your dog it will be taken more aggressively by your pooch.
- INCONSISTENCY
Just like us dogs can get confused and annoyed when the rules they are supposed to follow are inconsistent. When you come home, you may allow your pup to jump up on you and then have a cuddle on the couch. However, when you have a friend come over, you may chastise your dog for doing the exact same thing to them. The inconsistency confuses the doggy and they don’t know whether jumping is allowed or not, stick to a uniform set of rules for you and the guests to your house.
- BEING ALONE TOO MUCH
Dogs are pack animals, and you and your family make up your dogs pack. When you go to work, and leave your dog at home for hours on end, they can very easily get separation anxiety and express behaviours that are not healthy to them. They want to be around you and feel loved and when they’re not it annoys them.
