We all know that most children cannot wait to get a puppy, and ask their parents constantly to get one. While children do not really care about what dog they get, not all breeds fit in with families as well as others might. We have put together a list of the 5 best breeds that will get along with you and your family.
1- BOXER.
Initially Boxers may look menacing , but once you look into their loveable eyes, you will see the mischievous nature and complete joy for life that they have. The boxer is well known for its love for children, they are most definitely a people oriented breed of dog, and an instinctive pack animal so they prefer to have their family very close to them. Boxers require a lot of exercise and a lot of playful interaction that a family can provide. Our number 1 pick!
2- LABRADOR
A Labrador has long been the most popular dog in the Western world for many reasons, 1 of which is that it can very easily be a child’s best friend. They are one of the most gentle and friendly breeds in the world, and get along with everybody, from young to old. Just like children, Labs like nothing more than to play and eat, so your kids will get along perfectly with this fun, happy, loveable dog.
3- SCHNAUZER
Schnauzers arrived in Australia in 1934 and since then have become a very popular dog for families. They usually have a very calm temperament and are very good with children. They are a very smart breed, and are very good guard dogs, very protective of the ones who love them. They are very playful, yet very gentle around kids.
4- CAVALIER KING CHARLES SPANIEL
These lovely dogs were initially bred to be a companion dog, so it’s temperament is ideal for young children and families. They are not known to thrive to be ‘top dog’ and are not too worried about their place in the pecking order. They are gentle and kind with children and happy to play. They are most at home being an indoor dog and will provide you and your family many years of love and affection.
5- PUG
Pugs are very friendly dogs, they are very playful and love companionship. They will follow anyone around who shows them the slightest bit of love, so they will fit right in with you, and your playful children. Pugs have been referred to as a boxer but in a smaller body, so you can tell why they make our top 5 if the boxer is at number 1. Pugs are wonderful lap dogs and you will find them cuddled up sleeping next to your children in no time.
At FindADogMinder we love all dogs, so whatever breed you choose is fine by us. We know our dog sitters will love looking after your precious pooch.
Without a doubt, the lovely breeds of dogs are great with kids, but I have recently found greyhounds are also very loving towards children. In fact they are very loving in general. My family have just adopted two greyhounds through the Gap programme and are amazed at how loving they are. My 7 year old daughter has 2 best friends . If anyone is considering a family dog. Research the greyhound. You will be surprised and contact GAP, adopting a greyhound is a worthy cause.
We also have a greyhound we adopted through GAP and he is amazing with out 5 year old. Gentle, patient and loving. Our houndie is the perfect addition to our family.
